Mellosoniclinux MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTIONText Box: If you haven’t heard of Linux or open source, then you are missing out on a whole other world of computing. Linux and Open Source software used to be thought of as only usable by computer geeks and engineers but that has changed and so has Linux. If you have dealt with windows or mac audio/midi software and operating systems then you have most of the basic knowledge you will need to get started with Linux. I recommend that if you have and old Pentium 2 or better computer sitting around then you should download an Live CD image file called an ISO and burn it with your cd burner. You can do this in windows or mac and most cd burning software supports ISO images. Then set your CMOS to boot your computer from the CD drive—ever used a rescue cd? It’s the same principle…
By using “LIVE CD’s and DVD’s” you can try out many different flavours of Linux and see which one you like better. There is a small learning curve but most of the available distros on this web page are easy to figure out and have good support. Then install your favorite version—you can even install some of these to USB drives and save files to them...my advice is dive in and you’ll learn how to swim while enjoying the journey… Good luck - mello
